Firstly we don’t believe that there is just one farming method that suits all situations. We don’t have the attitude that we have all the answers and we certainly do not force any farmers to follow one particular strategy.
Our aim is to provide farmers with assistance and support to enable them to be successful in their enterprises. This will involve increasing awareness of new ideas, technologies and often just good sound farming techniques. For example, many farmers in Africa have never been taught how to apply fertiliser and may never have seen a crop that benefits from fertiliser.
We ensure that we meet the farmers needs and promote the best farming practices by doing the following;
- Work closely with the farmers, listen to them and find out their points of view and their experiences
- Employ Ugandan extension workers who understand the climate, land and farming methods better than anyone
- Use demonstration farms to show farmers different farming techniques so they can see the options available
- Develop and maintain strong links with UK and Ugandan Universities and colleges
